A Dark Song

God’s Thoughts to Me

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? (Psalm 42:5, NIV).

Ebony and Ivory

Ebony and Ivory
a woeful lament
of a dark soul
downcast, in torment
a heart that pitifully weeps
desperate, quiet needs
smothered in the heavy darkness
of the organ’s
Toccata and Fugue

Much love from a heavy heart

I live in a small seaside town on the south-east coast of South Africa. I suffer from fybromyalgia/constant fatigue syndrome. I trust in the Lord Jesus for grace and strength to survive from day to day. He provides me with this and more and I therefore like to try and encourage others with the same illness. I am married and I am the proud mother of two grown sons.

    1. Dear Jedidja
Yes, my friend, light and darkness in our Lord Jesus is actually just a matter of the way we think. Even when we suffer, we can still experience His love and light. Yes, in our darkest nights our Pappa gives us a song in the heart. Jedidja, my godmother was a Dutch lady and I studied Dutch my first year in university about 30 years ago. Afrikaans is so much like Dutch. I cannot speak your language, but I do read Dutch. I enjoy the beauty of your language and enjoy reading your posts.
      Much love, dear friend

  2. Mia, It seems as though our Abba Father uses these dark times when we feel so alone that our soul aches to teach us to praise Him in the midst and to refine our character into His beautiful likeness. It’s hard… and it good…but it’s so hard. Almost daily He places you on my heart to pray for. I count it a sweet privilege.
    Much love ~ Mary

    1. Dear Mary
Oh, your love and encouragement means so much to me. I count it a great honor and blessing to know you. What is so special to me, is that we both share not only Fibromyalgia, but a lot of things from the past.
      Much love, sweet friend

  3. Prayers sent up for you today, Mia! Thank you for sharing your heart so we can lift you up!
    Love, Rachael

    1. Dear Rachael
What a wonderful bunch of lovely girls you all are.Thank you so much for your prayers.

  4. So many good words of encouragement from these sisters in Christ. All I can add is what my grandmother used to say, “Trouble don’t last always.”

  5. Mia – That verse comes from one of my favorite Psalms. Want to know why? In both verse 5 & then again in verse 11 it says, “Put your hope in God, for I will YET praise him, my Savior & my God.” The Psalmist knew that God would life him up & his mouth would be filled with praise. Prayed for you this morning when I was your neighbor at The Sunday Community πŸ™‚

    1. Dear Joanne
This is sometimes just overwhelming to know that He promises to make everything better with His love and grace so that we will be able to sing praises to Him again.

  6. Oh, Mia, you are singing from a dark place today and I just want to let you know you are far from alone. Many have walked that way before you and many walk that path with you now. There is a place for songs of lament as well as joy and all are received the same at the throne of grace. God understands your heart’s state and needs. He stands ready and waiting to lift you out of the mud and mire and set your feet on the Rock once more. Praying for you to be strengthened and encouraged by our Heavenly Pappa’s loving embrace as you rest in Him. This too shall pass, my friend.

    1. Dear Joy
Thank you much, dear friend! Oh, the blessing to be able to just be open and honest with you all today knowing that you will understand.

  7. From the depths of our heart comes a song, even in darkness. Sing my friend! Praying you sense His nearness and that He will encourage your heart. Hugs!

  8. Lifting you up, Mia! Continue to cry out to our Lord! He hears you, He holds you, He loves you. And when you fail to have the words to sing to Him, even a dark song, take comfort knowing the Holy Spirit will take up the chorus for you. You are not alone! Hugs and prayers and love for you today!

  9. Dearest Mia,
You are crying out to our God with all of your heavy passionate heart. I know He hears and will comfort you – but know that we are all coming around you to lift you up to Him, too. Hugs Friend!

    1. Dear Missy
Oh, you guys will never know how much all your prayers, encouragement and love means to me today. Thank you sooo much!

  10. Hello Mia! (I just want to say Mia My-A! because you are His girl and he calls you His.) There is a song that sings in our hearts when we are filled with joy and when we are filled with sorrow. But he sings with us in the night, and promises there will be joy in the morning, he puts a new song in our heart! Praying for you to rest in the night songs as you wait upon Him and he restores your strength to rejoicing that soars once again.
    Hugs my friend,

    1. Dear Kelly
It brings me so much joy to now that my name means “my own”! Thank you for your kind encouragement. All your love is a gift straight from Pappa’s heart.
      Much love

  11. Oh, the Psalms are such a good place to be when a dark song is in your soul! I’m so glad the bible records David’s times of anguish as well as times of joy. We humans will always experience both; but in Him is full of joy. God bless you and comfort you.

    1. Dear Jerralea
Yes, my friend, even in our times of anguish we can still experience the joy and rest we can only find in Him.

  12. What a beautiful song, Mia. As always, you’ve touched my heart with your words yet again. I pray yours will be lifted today, as heavy hearts are lighter in numbers. Much love right back to you, dearest Mia.

    1. Dear Tanya
What a great privilege to be able to help carry one another’s burdens. The crying together makes the laughing together so much better.

  13. Oh Mia… sometimes a lamenting song is what is called for and that is ok… for it is in the low tones of the darkness that His Light can shine brightly… can His glory swoop in and sing the bridge and change the message of the song itself… He alone can turn it into Praise! Singing low with you this week, my friend – but I can feel the crescendo rising!

    1. Dear Karrilee
Yes, my friend, the sunshine after a thunderstorm is usually the best. I am glad you are feeling His joy already rising in your heart!

    1. Dear Nikki
When I read your post today, I realized I was not the only one with a heavy heart and I prayed for you.
Hugs back to you, my friend

  14. Dear Mia … may sweet songs in the night and in the daytime hours bring life and hope to your weary soul … praying right now that your blogging will be a huge blessing to you today …

  15. I love the Psalms and I love that verse. It reminds me that we are not alone. David’s words especially during his trials always encourage me. Beautiful words.

    1. Dear Eileen
Yes, I love those songs of David where he pours out his great torment at our Pappa’s feet.
